" Word stress - the accent on one syllable in a word. A word stress means a prominent syllable. When a syllable is stressed, it is pronounced -longer in duration -higher in pitch -louder in volume ".
Word Stress Rule
-Sentence stress is the music of spoken English. Like word stress, sentence stress can help you to understand spoken English, especially when spoken fast. -Sentence stress is what gives English its rhythm or "beat". You remember that word stress is accent on one syllable within a word. Sentence stress is accent on certain words within a sentence. -Most sentences have two types of word: -Content words -Structure words Content words are the key words of a sentence. They are the important words that carry the meaning or sense. Structure words are not very important words. They are small, simple words that make the sentence correct grammatically. If you remove the structure words from a sentence, you will probably still understand the sentence. Rules for Sentence Stress in English -Content words are stressed -Structure words are unstressed -The time between stressed words is always the same ".
Stressed Words -Sentence stress can help you to understand spoken English, especially when spoken fast. In English, we do not say each word in a sentence with the same force or strength. In one sentence, we accentuate (stress) some words. We pronounce some words very loudly (big, strong, important) and all the other words very quietly. -Words we generally stress are considered CONTENT WORDS.They are the key words of a sentence. They are the important words that carry the meaning or sense. Examples -Nouns e.g. kitchen, Peter. - Verbs e.g. visit, construct . -Adjectives e.g. beautiful, interesting -Adverbs e.g. often, carefully -Numbers e.g. 45,76 -Negatives e.g. won’t ,aren’t,doesn’t Unstressed Words In spoken English some words are pronounced very quietly. Non-stressed words are considered FUNCTION WORDS or STRUCTURE WORDS .Structure words are not very important words. They are small, simple words that make the sentence correct grammatically. They give the sentence its correct form or "structure“. If you remove the structure words from a sentence, you will probably still understand the sentence. Examples -Determiners e.g. the, a, some, a few -Auxiliary verbs e.g. am, can, were -Prepositions e.g. before, next to, opposite -Conjunctions e.g. but, while, as, and -Pronouns e.g. they, she, us

" A reduction occurs in native speakers’ speech when they reduce or eliminate certain sounds.Native English speakers often use reduced forms (of words and phrases)when speaking in informal situations. Reductions occur with function words, but never with content words. -Examples of reduced function words: a,an,the,are,as,because,can,for,from,had,has,have,of,or,that,than,to,was. The -s endings are not pronounced in the same way, you can apply the following rules to pronounce correctly:

IsI after voiceless consonants sounds (/p/, /t/, /k/, /f/, /θ/)

Izl after voiced consonant sounds (/b/, /d/, /g/, /v/, /ð/,/l/, /r/, /m/, /n/,/ŋ/), or a vowel sound, (a, e, i, o, u, y, ie,)

The -s Ending
The -ed ending in the past simple tense and past participle of all regular verbs is pronounced in three different ways / t/ or / d/ or / Id/
